How Dagny works

Memory.

A teammate you have to re-brief every morning isn't much of a teammate. Dagny remembers, so you say things once and they stay said.

Two kinds of remembering

• Standing knowledge. The durable stuff: your hours, your tone, how you price, the file an editor handed over. Taught once, it holds on every surface, in every future conversation.
• Conversation history. Dagny can look back at past chats, so “what did we decide about the launch?” gets an answer instead of a shrug. The relationship picks up where it left off, not from zero.

One memory, whole team

Memory belongs to the workspace, not to any one person. A fact you teach in Slack helps a teammate asking on the web tomorrow. That's the point: the team briefs Dagny once, and everyone gets the benefit.

It also means memory is a shared surface. A good rule of thumb: tell Dagny the things you'd put on the team wiki. Everything it keeps is readable in Knowledge, and you can prune it from Settings.

What Dagny never remembers

Private conversations stay private. In a private Slack channel, a group DM, or a direct message, memory becomes one-way glass: Dagny reads what it already knows so it can still be useful, but it writes nothing back. No facts saved, no notes taken, nothing carried into the shared brain. Files shared there are read for that moment and kept nowhere.

• Nothing leaks out.What's said in a private conversation can't resurface in another chat, in search, or in an answer to a teammate.
• Doubt counts as private. If Dagny can't confirm whether a conversation is private, it plays it safe and treats it as if it were.
• Deleted means gone from view. Delete a chat and it stops surfacing anywhere Dagny looks back.

Good to know

Memory builds itself in the background, and like any teammate's notes it can occasionally hold something stale or plain wrong. When an answer feels off, check Knowledge, correct the fact or delete it, and Dagny moves on with the fixed version. Teaching and pruning are for editors and owners; everyone can ask Dagny what it knows.
